Riding 250km to Fight Kids’ Cancer: Support Nic’s Great Cycle Challenge

This October, Nic Goucher is taking on a 250 km cycling challenge to help fight childhood cancer, and everyone at Raw Power & Lighting is getting behind him.

Nic is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge Australia, raising funds to support the Children’s Medical Research Institute and its work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer.

It’s a cause that deserves all of our support.

Why Nic Is Taking on the Challenge

Cancer remains the largest single cause of death from disease among Australian children. According to Nic’s Great Cycle Challenge fundraising page, around 90 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer every month and three children lose their lives to the disease every week.

As Nic puts it:

“Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.”

That’s why, throughout October, he has committed to getting on his bike and riding 250 kilometres while raising funds to help give children affected by cancer a brighter future.

It’s a physical challenge, but the kilometres represent something much bigger.

250km With a $1,000 Fundraising Goal

Nic has set himself two clear goals for the Great Cycle Challenge:

  • Ride 250 km during October
  • Raise $1,000 to fight kids’ cancer

And the support has already started coming in.

As of 18 September 2026, Nic’s fundraising page shows $303 raised from seven sponsors, meaning he’s already more than 30% of the way towards his $1,000 target before the October challenge begins.

Nic recently shared how much that early support has meant to him, saying the encouragement from people getting behind the challenge is motivating him to push even harder towards his goals. He also plans to share photos and updates as the challenge progresses.

Where Will the Money Go?

Funds raised through the Great Cycle Challenge support the Children’s Medical Research Institute and its research into childhood cancer.

Nic says his reason for riding and fundraising is to support the Institute’s work in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer, as well as research towards finding cures.

Every donation, regardless of size, helps contribute towards that work.

Raw Power & Lighting Is Proud to Get Behind Nic

At Raw Power & Lighting, being a local business is about more than the work we do each day. It’s also about supporting our people and our wider community when they take on something meaningful.

Riding 250 km is no small commitment, but the cause behind those kilometres is what makes this challenge particularly important.

We’re proud to support Nic as he takes on the Great Cycle Challenge this October, and we’d love our customers, friends, suppliers and wider Gold Coast community to get behind him too.

250 kilometres. One important cause.

Throughout October, every kilometre Nic rides will be part of a much bigger effort to support children and families facing childhood cancer.

For this one, I would not stuff our normal Electrician Gold Coast keywords into it. It’s primarily a genuine community story, and forcing Electrician Parkwood, Solar Installation Gold Coast, etc. throughout it would weaken the message. We can still give it local relevance through Raw Power & Lighting, Gold Coast and community references, and internally link the Raw Power & Lighting name back to the appropriate service/home page.
